The map
Okayama Map Poster & Print
Okayama spreads across a flat plain on the Seto Inland Sea side of western Honshu. From above, its most memorable feature is at the centre: the Asahi River curves around an island occupied by Korakuen, one of Japan's three great landscape gardens, with Okayama Castle standing on the opposite bank.
The castle, known for its dark exterior and nicknamed the Crow Castle, anchors the older part of the city. Around it, the streets form a moderately regular grid that extends toward the railway station, where the Sanyo Shinkansen stops. The city is also closely associated with the folk tale of Momotaro, the Peach Boy.
The Okayama map poster shows a city with a clear heart and a wide surrounding plain. Rivers run south toward the Inland Sea, and the flat terrain lets the street pattern spread evenly, broken only by the loops of water and the green of the garden.

Castle and river
Okayama Castle stands across the river from the garden, and the curve of the water between them forms the focal point of the map.
Station grid
West of the castle area, streets form a steadier grid leading to the railway station, where Shinkansen lines pass through the city.
