Hillside old town
The historic streets bend and climb up steep slopes around the centre, forming a tight web of lanes that follow the terrain rather than a grid.

The map
Pachuca de Soto Map Poster & Print
Pachuca sits at the foot of the Sierra de Pachuca in the state of Hidalgo, and its map is split into two very different parts. The historic centre is squeezed into a narrow valley, with streets that twist and climb up the surrounding hills. To the south, the city opens out onto a flat plain where newer neighbourhoods follow a much more regular pattern.
The city grew on silver mining, and in the nineteenth century miners from Cornwall brought football and the pastes, a local version of the Cornish pasty. Club Pachuca is often described as the oldest football club in Mexico. The city is also known as La Bella Airosa because of the strong winds, and its monumental clock tower stands in the main square.
A Pachuca de Soto map poster shows the contrast between the dense, irregular old town and the more open grid below. On the hillsides, streets follow contour lines in tight curves, while on the plain they stretch out in straight rows. In black and white this becomes a clear picture of a town built around mines that later spread across the valley.

Plaza and clock tower
The main square with the Reloj Monumental forms a small open space at the heart of the old town, where several streets meet.
Southern plain
New districts spread south onto flat land, with longer, straighter streets and larger blocks that contrast with the crowded valley.
