Branching road network
Roads climb and curve across the hills and connect dozens of parishes. They form a web instead of a grid, which is typical of the Minho and Douro Litoral landscape.

The map
Paredes Map Poster & Print
Paredes lies east of Porto, in the Vale do Sousa, where the land folds into hills and small valleys. From above it doesn't look like one tight town. It looks like a network of parishes linked by curving roads, with houses, workshops and fields in between. The municipal centre shows up as the place where these roads come together and the street pattern gets denser.
Paredes is widely known in Portugal as the country's furniture capital. Furniture making has shaped its economy and the layout of its outskirts for generations, and small workshops and showrooms line many of the roads leading out of town. Today the municipality belongs to the wider Porto metropolitan orbit while keeping a strong identity of its own.
A Paredes map poster captures the distinctive settlement pattern of northern Portugal. Roads follow the contours of the land instead of a grid, and built-up areas thin gradually into farmland and woodland. Printed in black and white, the lines take on an almost botanical quality, branching and rejoining across the sheet like the veins of a leaf.

Town centre
The municipal centre is where the routes converge. The street lines tighten here into a denser knot of blocks and squares.
Valley setting
Small watercourses cut through the terrain toward the Sousa valley. Their paths explain much of how the roads bend and where houses cluster.
