Skala harbour
The main port lies in a deep bay at the island's narrow middle. Nearly every arrival passes through here, and the waterfront is the busiest set of lines on the map.

The map
Patmos Map Poster & Print
Patmos is one of the northern Dodecanese islands in the eastern Aegean, small enough to cross by car in minutes. Its outline is unusually complicated for its size. Deep bays bite into it from both sides, leaving three hilly sections connected by narrow necks of land. The coastline zigzags so much that it looks far longer than the island is wide.
The port of Skala sits at the narrowest point, where ferries arrive in a sheltered bay. On the hilltop above, the white village of Chora wraps around the fortified Monastery of Saint John the Theologian, founded in the eleventh century. Its lanes are tight and irregular, forming a dense knot of streets on an island otherwise marked by a few quiet roads.
Halfway up the hill is the Cave of the Apocalypse, where tradition holds that John wrote the Book of Revelation. The monastery, the cave and the historic centre of Chora are listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A Patmos map poster frames that sacred hill and the ragged shoreline around it in a single view.

Chora and the monastery
A fortress-like monastery crowns the hill above Skala, and the village of Chora is packed around its walls. From above, it forms a tight cluster of alleys unlike anything else on the island.
Indented coastline
Coves and headlands follow one another all the way around Patmos. The outline is the real subject of the poster: a small island whose edge rarely runs straight for long.

Why Patmos
A map that means something
Patmos appeals to pilgrims, to readers of scripture and to travellers who prefer a quiet island to a lively one. Its intricate outline and the knot of Chora make a small map that rewards a close look. It suits a study, a reading corner or a hallway.
Change the title, write a subtitle, perhaps a verse reference or the year of a visit, and edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available, including Paper and Sand for a softer look. Order a matte print from partners in 30+ countries, or download the HD files for $9.
