The map
Pécs Map Poster & Print
Pécs lies in south-western Hungary at the foot of the Mecsek hills, and the map shows a city shaped by that slope. The historic centre sits on rising ground, compact and irregular, with the cathedral and its squares near its northern edge. The city stretches mostly east and west along the base of the hills, while the Mecsek itself fills the north of the frame with woodland and winding roads.
The city's history runs deep. Its early Christian necropolis, dating from Roman Sopianae, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The former mosque of Pasha Qasim, now a church, still dominates Széchenyi Square. Pécs was home to Hungary's first university, founded in 1367, gave its name to Zsolnay porcelain, and was a European Capital of Culture in 2010.
A Pécs map poster brings out the contrast between the dense old town and the open, green hillside above it. The main squares are small open spaces within a web of narrow streets. Beyond the centre, residential districts spread along the valley floor, and the Mecsek roads loop upward into the woods.

Cathedral quarter
Around the four-towered cathedral and the early Christian burial sites, the streets are especially dense and old. This forms the northern edge of the historic centre.
The Mecsek hills
Wooded hills rise directly north of the city, crossed by winding roads and paths. They give the poster a green, open upper half above the built-up area.

Why Pécs
A map that means something
Pécs is a university city, so many of the people who keep a map of it spent their student years walking between the squares and the hills. It also suits anyone with family roots in Baranya, or visitors who remember its Mediterranean light and southern warmth.
Change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to name a street, a graduation year or a special date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters come on matte paper, framed if you like.
