Palace and citadel
The Palace of the Kings of Majorca sits inside angular bastioned walls on a rise south of the centre. It is one of the most striking geometric shapes on the map.

The map
Perpignan Map Poster & Print
Perpignan lies on the Roussillon plain, a short way inland from the Mediterranean, with the Têt River running along the northern side of the centre. The historic core is a tight, irregular knot of lanes. A narrow channel, the Basse, curves through it, lined with plane trees and promenades. Wide boulevards follow the line of the old ramparts around the old town.
In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries Perpignan was the mainland capital of the Kingdom of Majorca. The Palace of the Kings of Majorca still stands on high ground south of the centre, enclosed by later star-shaped fortifications. The Castillet, a brick gateway, marks the old entrance to the city, and Catalan culture remains visible in street names and festivals.
A Perpignan map poster makes the layers clear: the dense medieval centre, the ring of boulevards, the geometry of the citadel walls and the suburbs spreading toward the sea and the foothills of the Pyrenees. The Têt cuts a strong diagonal across the composition, and the Basse adds a delicate second line through the old town.

The Basse
This small watercourse loops through the historic centre on its way to the Têt, and its tree-lined quays trace a gentle curve through the old streets.
Boulevard ring
Broad avenues trace the line of the demolished ramparts. They circle the old town and separate its fine medieval street pattern from the more regular districts beyond.
