Quixelô is a small municipality in the interior of Ceará, in north-eastern Brazil, in the Centro-Sul region near Iguatu. It is in the semi-arid landscape known as the sertão, where rainfall is seasonal and water is closely tied to rivers and reservoirs. From above, the town is compact, a few rows of blocks around a central square and a church.
The surrounding municipality lies within the Jaguaribe river basin, Ceará's most important watershed. On a map, the countryside is mostly open: scrubland, scattered farm plots, dirt roads and seasonal streams that are dry for much of the year.
