Sobradinho shoreline
The reservoir, one of the largest artificial lakes in Brazil, fills much of the view. It appears as a broad expanse of water edged by long, irregular inlets and bays.

The map
Remanso Map Poster & Print
Remanso lies in northern Bahia on the edge of the Sobradinho reservoir, the great lake created on the São Francisco River in the 1970s. The original town was flooded when the dam filled, and a new Remanso was built on higher ground. That history is visible from above: a regular, planned street layout meets a shoreline that looks less like a river than an inland sea.
The reservoir dominates the frame. Its irregular shore, full of inlets and shallow bays, contrasts with the town's orderly blocks, which run in straight lines toward the water. Around them lies the caatinga, the dry scrubland of the Brazilian interior. Only a few roads cross it, and they fade quickly into open space on the map.
A Remanso map poster works almost as a study in two kinds of geometry: the soft, ragged edge of the lake and the measured grid of a town that had to start again. In black and white the water becomes a large calm field, and the streets sit beside it with unusual clarity. It is an uncommon subject, and a striking one.

A planned new town
Remanso was rebuilt after the old town was submerged, so it has straight roads and even blocks. It looks quite unlike the organic centres of older towns in the region.
Caatinga surroundings
Beyond the town, the dry scrubland of the sertão shows as open ground crossed by a handful of roads. This gives the composition room to breathe around the settlement.

Why Remanso
A map that means something
Remanso carries a particular kind of memory. Families who remember the old town now under water, and people who grew up in the new one, often feel strongly about the place. A map is a quiet way of marking that. It also suits anyone drawn to the São Francisco and its landscapes.
Add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or a year, and a coordinates line, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9, or order a matte print from a partner near you, with an optional wooden frame.
