The map
Rodriguez Map Poster & Print
Rodriguez, still widely known by its former name Montalban, lies in the province of Rizal on the north-eastern edge of Metro Manila. It is a town of two halves. The western part is a dense spread of subdivisions and roads that runs continuously into Quezon City and San Mateo. The eastern part climbs into the forested foothills of the Sierra Madre, where houses give way to ridges and valleys.
The Wawa River leaves the mountains through the Montalban Gorge, a narrow cut between steep cliffs. Local legend links the gorge to Bernardo Carpio, a giant said to hold the mountains apart. Near the gorge stands the Wawa Dam, built in the early twentieth century to supply water to Manila. The town was renamed in 1982 in honour of the statesman Eulogio Rodriguez.
A Rodriguez map poster frames that dramatic shift from tight suburban streets to the empty slopes and winding river of the uplands. The contrast gives the composition a strong sense of direction, dense on one side and open on the other. It makes a striking wall piece for anyone who knows the road to Wawa.

Suburban west
Subdivisions with curving, looping streets fill the lowland side of town. Their dense texture continues without a break into neighbouring Metro Manila.
Sierra Madre slopes
East of the gorge the street network almost disappears. In its place are the folded terrain and river valleys of the Sierra Madre foothills.
