The map
Roubaix Map Poster & Print
Roubaix grew rapidly in the nineteenth century as one of the great textile centres of Europe, and its map still reflects that industrial boom. Long, straight streets of narrow brick houses run between former mills and warehouses. Many blocks hide courtyards of workers' housing, known locally as courées, in their interiors.
The city is part of the continuous urban area around Lille and sits right against the Belgian border. The Canal de Roubaix crosses the city as part of the waterway between the Deûle and the Scheldt basins. The Grand Boulevard, laid out in the early twentieth century, links Roubaix to Lille and Tourcoing in a broad, tree-lined sweep.
Roubaix is also known for giving its industrial buildings new uses. The most famous is La Piscine, an Art Deco swimming pool turned art museum. The city is home, too, to the velodrome where the Paris–Roubaix cycle race finishes. A Roubaix map poster traces these stories in its lines: mill grids, terraced streets, the canal and the boulevards.

Grand Boulevard
This wide avenue with its parallel lanes connects Roubaix to Lille and Tourcoing. It is one of the strongest lines on any map of the metropolitan area.
The velodrome
The open-air velodrome marks the finish of Paris–Roubaix. Its oval track stands out clearly among the terraced streets and sports grounds around it.

Why Roubaix
A map that means something
Roubaix has a strong sense of identity, from the families who worked in the mills to the cyclists who have watched riders enter the velodrome. A map of its streets honours a working city that reinvented itself.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a street name or a race year, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download includes six sizes, or you can order a printed poster from a print partner.
