The map
Savonlinna Map Poster & Print
Savonlinna lies in eastern Finland, in the Saimaa lake system, the largest in the country. The town is spread across a group of islands and peninsulas, and water runs through its centre. From above, the map is as much lake as land: straits, bays and islands separate the neighbourhoods, and bridges connect them in a clear, deliberate pattern.
The town's best-known landmark is Olavinlinna, a castle founded in 1475 on a rocky island in a strait between two lakes. Each summer it hosts the Savonlinna Opera Festival, with performances in its courtyard. On the map, the castle sits at a narrow point in the water, just next to the town centre. A Savonlinna map poster shows this setting precisely.
Beyond the centre, the landscape opens into the typical Saimaa pattern of forest, water and countless islands, with roads winding along narrow strips of land between lakes. The Saimaa ringed seal, one of the rarest seals in the world, lives only in this lake system. In black and white, the map becomes a fine, intricate interplay of land and water.

Bridges and straits
The town is divided by water and joined by bridges, so its streets form separate groups on islands and peninsulas linked by short crossings.
Saimaa lakeland
Around the town, the Saimaa lake system breaks into countless islands, bays and narrow isthmuses, which gives the edges of the map an intricate, lace-like texture.

Why Savonlinna
A map that means something
Savonlinna is a place of summers: opera nights at the castle, lake cottages and long evenings on the water. For Finns and visitors alike, a map of the islands and bridges keeps those memories in a calm, lasting form.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a festival year or the name of a summer cottage. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir brings out the water beautifully.
