The map
Sterling Map Poster & Print
Sterling is a city in north-western Illinois, on the north bank of the Rock River. From above, the river is the defining feature. It runs broadly east to west through the area, with Sterling on one side and Rock Falls on the other, joined by bridges. The town's streets form a fairly regular grid that meets the river at the waterfront.
Sterling grew as a manufacturing town, and steel and wire production played a large part in its history. The river provided power and a site for industry, and old industrial land still appears along the waterfront. Today Sterling and Rock Falls work as neighbouring communities on either side of the water.
A Sterling map poster frames a classic Midwestern river town. The Rock River runs across the composition, the bridges make short connecting lines, and the grid of residential streets spreads north from the water. It is a clear, balanced image of a town organised around its river.

Regular street grid
North of the river the town follows a fairly regular Midwestern grid, with long straight streets and evenly sized blocks.
