The river runs along the western side of the city, widened in places by dams and dotted with islands. The city is home to the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, whose campus stands a short way north of downtown. It is also home to the Stevens Point Brewery, one of the oldest continuously operating breweries in the United States.
