Tarauacá is in the state of Acre in western Brazil, deep in the Amazon basin. The town sits on the Tarauacá River, which winds through the forest in wide meanders. For much of the town's history, the river was the main route in and out, while today the BR-364 highway also connects it with the rest of Acre.
