Terrell lies in Kaufman County, east of Dallas, along Interstate 20 and the older route of US 80. The town grew up beside the railway in the 1870s, and on a map the downtown grid still lines up with the tracks. During the Second World War, Terrell hosted the No. 1 British Flying Training School, where Royal Air Force cadets learned to fly under the Texas sky. A museum at the municipal airport now tells that story. The airport's runways are a clear feature on the edge of the town map.
