Contour-following roads
Roads bend and switch back to follow the slopes, so the map is made of long curves rather than straight lines or blocks.

The map
Tondalam Map Poster & Print
Tondalam lies in the hills of western Tamil Nadu, close to the border with Kerala. The terrain here is uneven, and on a map the settlement does not follow a grid. Instead, roads and paths curve along the contours of the slopes, and houses gather along them in loose, irregular groups.
This is a landscape of hills, forests and plantations, where the land shapes nearly every line on the map. Streams run down the valleys between the slopes, and roads wind between neighbouring villages and towns. The built-up area is spread out rather than concentrated, which gives the place a softer, more scattered look from above.
A Tondalam map poster is a study of roads in hill country. The curving lines, the gaps left by steep ground and the thin threads of streams create a pattern that is very different from a plains town. It is a quiet, detailed map for anyone with a connection to this corner of Tamil Nadu.

Scattered settlement
Houses and lanes are spread along the roads in small clusters, leaving open space between them where the ground is steep or planted.
Valley streams
Small streams run through the valleys between hills, adding fine, winding lines that trace the shape of the land beneath the roads.
