The map
Vapi Map Poster
Vapi sits at the southern tip of Gujarat, close to the border with the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. From above it is shaped by movement. The main Mumbai–Ahmedabad railway and the national highway run north to south through the town, and the streets are arranged on either side of these two strong lines.
The town grew quickly around a large industrial estate developed by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, known especially for chemicals and paper. On the map the estate stands out as a broad area of long, straight roads and big plots. Around it are the smaller, more irregular streets of the older town and the housing that grew up for its workers.
The Damanganga River passes close by on its way to the sea at Daman, adding a soft, curving line to an otherwise angular map.
