Yangtze curves
The river winds through the centre in wide bends, and the reservoir has widened it into a broad, calm expanse that fills much of the poster.

The map
Wanzhou Map Poster & Print
Wanzhou lies on the Yangtze in the northeast of Chongqing Municipality, on the way from Chongqing's central districts toward the Three Gorges. The river bends through the city in broad curves, and urban districts line both banks, rising on terraces and hillsides where the flat land runs out. On a map, the streets form bands that follow the contours above the water.
The completion of the Three Gorges Dam changed the city profoundly. As the reservoir filled in the 2000s, the river rose and lower parts of the old town were submerged, and large numbers of residents were moved to new districts built higher up. The present waterfront, with its broad embankments, is largely a product of that relocation.
Wanzhou is also known for its bridges across the Yangtze, including a long concrete arch completed in 1997 that was among the longest of its type in the world when built. A Wanzhou map poster traces the river's curve and the ladder of streets climbing away from it, a portrait of a city shaped by water and height.

Terraced streets
Roads switch back and run along the hillsides in stacked layers, creating a pattern of curving parallel lines very different from the grids of flatter cities.
River bridges
Several major bridges span the Yangtze within the city, their straight decks crossing the water and joining the districts that face each other on the two banks.

Why Wanzhou
A map that means something
Many Wanzhou families lived through the move uphill as the reservoir rose, and the city they know today is partly new. A map of it records the present shape of home, and the subtitle can mark a before-and-after year.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name, a district or a date. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and download the HD files or order a printed poster on matte paper.
