Market square
The Marktplatz forms a large open rectangle in the middle of the old town. On the poster it stands out as a clear void among dense streets, the natural focal point of the plan.

The map
Wismar Map Poster & Print
Wismar is a Baltic port on the bay of the same name in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Together with Stralsund, its historic centre was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2002 as an example of a Hanseatic town. From above, the old town is a compact, rounded shape of medieval streets, bordered by the harbour on its western side.
At its heart is the Marktplatz, one of the largest market squares in northern Germany, with the Wasserkunst fountain pavilion in one corner. Large brick churches stand out as broad footprints among the streets. After the Thirty Years' War the town was under Swedish rule for more than 150 years, a period still marked in local memory.
A Wismar map poster shows the clarity of the medieval plan: streets radiating towards the market, the curve of the former fortifications traced by later roads, and the angular basins of the old harbour. Beyond them spreads the bay, with the island of Poel to the north, giving the print a wide maritime frame.

Old harbour
The historic harbour sits right beside the old town, its basins and quays creating sharp geometric edges. It links the medieval centre directly to the waters of Wismar Bay.
Wismar Bay
The bay opens to the north, with the island of Poel across the water. This broad expanse of sea gives the composition space and emphasises Wismar's role as a Baltic port.
