The map
Wuchang Map Poster & Print
Wuchang is a county-level city administered by Harbin, in the south of Heilongjiang province near the Jilin border. The land is almost completely flat, part of the broad plain of northeast China. From above the town is a compact grid of wide streets surrounded by farmland on every side.
That farmland defines the area. Wuchang rice is one of the best-known rice names in China and is prized for its fragrance and texture. The cool climate and long daylight hours of the growing season shape the harvest. Irrigation channels and field boundaries divide the countryside into long, regular strips.
The town grid itself is orderly, with main roads laid out almost at right angles and larger blocks at the edges. A Wuchang map poster is a study in lines: a dense block of streets in the middle and the fine repetition of paddy boundaries around it.

Town grid
Wide streets cross at near right angles, giving the centre a clear, orderly shape. It reads crisply against the open land around it.
Flat plain
With no hills nearby, nothing interrupts the layout. The poster relies entirely on the balance between streets, fields and waterways.
