Yellow River
The river flows north past the city in a broad channel with sandbars and islands. It is the largest natural feature on the map and the source of everything green around it.

The map
Wuzhong Map Poster & Print
Wuzhong lies in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on the Yellow River as it flows north across the Ningxia plain. The land here is dry, and the city's surroundings are shaped by irrigation. From above, the urban core of Litong district appears within a network of canals and green fields drawn from the river, with arid country beyond the watered land.
Irrigation along this stretch of the Yellow River has a long history, and canals in the region have been maintained and rebuilt over many centuries. Upstream, the river passes through the Qingtongxia gorge, where a dam regulates water for the plain. A Wuzhong map poster frames the city streets against that river and its farmland, which is the essential story of the place.
The city is part of the Hui Muslim heartland of northwest China, and its mosques and food traditions reflect that heritage. The municipality covers a large area beyond the centre, from the irrigated river valley into hills and drylands to the south. For the poster, the focus stays on the town itself, where compact streets meet the canals and the river's broad channel.

Irrigation canals
A network of canals and ditches spreads across the plain from the river, dividing farmland into long, regular strips. On the poster these fine lines extend well beyond the urban streets.
Compact town grid
The city centre is laid out as a fairly regular pattern of streets and blocks on flat land. Its clear, orderly edges make it easy to read against the surrounding fields and water.
