The map
Xambabazar Map Poster & Print
Xambabazar lies on the southern rim of the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang, in the oasis country between the Taklamakan Desert and the Kunlun Mountains. Rivers from the mountains feed a narrow belt of irrigated land here, and on a map this belt is where almost all roads, fields and settlements are concentrated.
The name ends in bazar, and oasis towns in this region traditionally grew around their weekly markets. The street pattern reflects that: a central cluster where routes meet, surrounded by a grid of tree-lined farm roads and irrigation channels. Beyond them, the line work stops and dry land takes over.
A Xambabazar map poster shows the contrast that defines life on the southern Silk Road: a dense, carefully organised patch of cultivated land surrounded by space. In black and white the effect is striking, a finely drawn island floating on an empty page.

Irrigated farm grid
Straight lanes and channels divide the oasis into orderly fields, forming a regular pattern that thins toward the edges.
Desert boundary
Where the water ends, the map empties sharply, making the outline of the oasis one of the most distinctive shapes in the frame.
