Edge of the mountains
The built-up area ends where the ground rises. That creates a sharp boundary on the map between regular town streets and the open, empty space of the slopes.

The map
Zărnești Map Poster & Print
Zărnești lies in Brașov County at the point where the Bârsa lowland meets the mountains. The map shows the change clearly. The town's streets spread across flat ground to the east, while to the west the road network ends abruptly at the steep limestone ridge of Piatra Craiului.
The town is the main gateway to Piatra Craiului National Park. A road leads west from the centre into the Zărnești Gorge, a narrow limestone canyon that hikers walk on the way to the ridge. On the map, that road is a thin line squeezed between steep slopes.
A Zărnești map poster frames a small industrial town against a large natural backdrop. A bear sanctuary nearby, which takes in bears rescued from captivity, has also made the area known to visitors from outside Romania.

Zărnești Gorge
A narrow road and path lead west into a limestone canyon. On the poster they appear as a single thin line between steep walls, heading towards the ridge.
Transylvanian street plan
Long village-style streets with houses on narrow plots run through the older parts of town, a pattern shared with many settlements in the Bârsa region.
