Acklins lies in the southern Bahamas, curving along the eastern side of the Bight of Acklins, a broad and very shallow lagoon it shares with Crooked Island to the north. On a map the island is a thin, crescent-like strip of land, with the Atlantic on one side and the pale, still waters of the bight on the other.
A single road follows most of the island, connecting a string of small settlements spread along its length. Salt ponds, mangrove creeks and tidal flats fill much of the shoreline facing the bight, and at the southern end Castle Island stands offshore with its lighthouse. The population is small, and much of the island is left to scrub and water.
Acklins and Crooked Island are known among anglers for their bonefish flats. An Acklins map poster reveals the unusual geography of this corner of the Bahamas: islands and a lagoon forming a near-closed ring, a shape that looks almost like a coral atoll drawn at an enormous scale, though it rests on a shallow limestone bank.
The shallow lagoon is the largest shape on the map, enclosed by Acklins, Crooked Island and Long Cay, pale and calm against the surrounding ocean.
One road runs along most of the island, linking its small settlements in a long, gentle line that follows the curve of the coast.
At the southern end a small island with a lighthouse sits offshore, a quiet full stop at the tip of the long crescent.

Anglers who fished the flats, Bahamians with family on the southern islands and sailors passing through these waters will recognise the curve. The lagoon's shape gives the poster an unusual, almost abstract quality on a wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised with your own wording, and the five styles include Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files in six print sizes cost $9, with a free watermarked preview before you buy.
