Ko e mape
Ādīgrat lies in the far north of Ethiopia's Tigray region, on a high plateau well over two thousand metres above sea level, not far from the border with Eritrea. On a map the town gathers around the main road that runs north from Mekelle toward the frontier. Side streets branch off it and thin out into open, rocky country broken by ridges and dry watercourses.
Its position has long made it a crossroads town, a stop for trade and travel between the Ethiopian highlands and the routes further north. Adigrat is also a religious centre and the seat of a Catholic eparchy. It is home to Adigrat University as well, which has added new campus buildings and streets on the edge of the older town.
An Ādīgrat map poster turns this setting into clean linework: the long spine of the highway, the finer net of neighbourhood lanes and the blank space of the plateau pressing in on every side. It is a spare, honest picture of a mountain town shaped by its road and its altitude, and it holds up well in a plain black-and-white print.
The main highway runs through the town like a spine, carrying traffic between Mekelle and the Eritrean border. Most of the street pattern is organised along it.
Beyond the last blocks the map opens into highland terrain. Tracks and seasonal streams trace faint lines across ground that sits well above two thousand metres.
Adigrat University has grown on the outskirts. Its campus roads and larger building footprints form a distinct cluster against the otherwise fine grain of the town.
