Alangāyam lies in the north of Tamil Nadu, in the country between Vaniyambadi and the Javadi Hills. On a map the town marks a threshold. To one side are the flatter farmlands of the Palar basin, laced with roads and small villages. To the other, the streets give way to the winding tracks and empty spaces of forested high ground.
The town itself is modest in scale: a main road lined with shops, side streets running off it, and residential blocks that loosen toward the edges. Tanks and seasonal water bodies appear as irregular shapes in the surrounding land, a familiar feature of the Tamil countryside where rainwater has long been stored for dry months.
