Ko e mape
Alsdorf lies in the Aachen region of western Germany, close to the Dutch border, in an area long dominated by coal mining. For more than a century the collieries shaped the town, bringing workers, railways and housing estates. The map still shows this legacy in the irregular growth of the districts and the large open spaces where mines and spoil heaps once stood.
The Anna colliery was the town's central mine, and its former site near the centre has been transformed. Today the Energeticon, a museum and education centre about energy, occupies the old mine buildings, and its winding tower serves as a landmark. Around it, a park and cultural spaces link the town centre with the surrounding neighbourhoods, turning industrial land into public space.
An Alsdorf map poster shows a town reshaped by its industrial past. Older housing estates are arranged around former pit sites, and green spaces fill ground where heavy industry once stood. In black and white, these layers create a varied composition that will speak to anyone connected to the mining history of the Aachen area.

Former mining heaps have been landscaped into green hills and parks. They appear on the map as rounded, unbuilt areas among the surrounding streets.
Estates built for mine workers form distinct clusters of regular streets and small plots, giving several districts a recognisably planned pattern.
