Argenteuil lies on the right bank of the Seine, northwest of Paris, where the river makes one of its large loops. The town stretches along the water. Streets climb from the riverbank toward a line of hills to the north, and several bridges connect it to the towns on the opposite bank. On the map, the river gives the town a broad curved base.
In the 1870s Claude Monet lived here and painted the river, the bridges and the sailing boats many times. Other Impressionists came to paint with him. Today the riverbank is more urban, but the Argenteuil map poster still shows the same basic geography: the Seine, the bridge crossings, and the old centre just back from the water.
The old centre around the basilica is a knot of irregular streets. The basilica is known for keeping a relic called the Holy Tunic. Beyond it, twentieth-century housing estates, rail lines and main roads fill the space up to the slopes of the hills. That produces a clear gradient from medieval streets to postwar blocks within a short distance.
The river runs along the southern edge of the town in a wide curve. It frames the map and gives the composition a strong horizontal base.
Road and rail bridges connect Argenteuil to the opposite bank. Monet painted them, and on the map they show up as short, confident strokes across the water.
The irregular streets around the basilica form a small, dense core. It stands out against the more regular housing estates and rail lines around it.

Ko e ha Argenteuil
Argenteuil prints appeal both to local residents and to people who love Impressionist painting. The riverbank Monet painted is still recognisable in the street layout, even though the town around it has changed.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with an address or a year. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper gives the Seine a quiet, drawing-like quality.
