Ko e mape
Bagulā is a town in the Nadia district of West Bengal, in eastern India, not far from the border with Bangladesh. It lies on the level Gangetic delta plain, where there are no hills to shape the streets. Instead, the map is organised by the railway, by a few main roads and by the water that sits everywhere in this landscape.
Rural Bengal is marked by ponds, tanks and small water bodies, many dug for fishing, irrigation or household use. From above, they appear as dozens of small shapes scattered between houses and fields, giving the map a speckled texture that is very characteristic of the region. Lanes weave between them, linking hamlets to the town centre and the station.
The railway gives Bagulā a clear axis, with the busiest part of town gathered near it. A Bagulā map poster captures that combination of a straight line of track, a loose web of lanes and a field of small ponds, a pattern that anyone from the Nadia countryside will recognise immediately.
The railway runs straight through the town and anchors the composition, with the station area forming the most closely built part of the map.
Numerous small water bodies are scattered across the area, each one a distinct shape on the print and together a signature of the Bengal plain.
Narrow roads wind between homes, ponds and paddy fields, creating a fine, irregular network that fills the space around the town.
