Sangu River
The Sangu curves past the town and gives the map its main natural line. The streets on its banks are arranged along the flatter ground beside the water.

Bāndarban is the headquarters of Bandarban district, in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of southeastern Bangladesh. The terrain is completely different from the flat delta that covers most of the country. From above, the town sits beside the Sangu River, and its streets follow the valley floor and low slopes. Forested ridges rise on every side and roads wind through them.
The district is home to several indigenous communities, with the Marma the most numerous in the town. Buddhist monasteries are part of the landscape, including the gilded Buddha Dhatu Jadi temple on a hilltop outside town. The district also contains some of the highest ground in Bangladesh, which draws trekkers heading for the remote peaks near the Myanmar border.
A Bāndarban map poster captures a town shaped by hills and water. Its streets are irregular because the ground is irregular, and the river provides a strong curving line through the composition. The result is one of the least grid-like maps in Bangladesh, a small, deliberate record of a mountain town.
The Sangu curves past the town and gives the map its main natural line. The streets on its banks are arranged along the flatter ground beside the water.
Roads in Bāndarban bend and switch back to follow hills and valleys. They create an organic street pattern that contrasts with Bangladesh's lowland towns.
The routes leaving town twist through the surrounding ridges toward other parts of the Hill Tracts. On the poster, they look like long, meandering threads.
