Ko e mape
Basauri lies just south-east of Bilbao, in a narrow valley where the Nervión and Ibaizabal rivers join. From above, the town is shaped by that meeting of waters. Streets follow the riverbanks and the valley floor, while the surrounding slopes push the housing into tight, stacked blocks that climb uphill where the ground allows.
The town grew as part of the industrial belt of Greater Bilbao, and rail lines and major roads still run through the valley beside the rivers. On the map, those transport corridors run parallel to the water, and the result is a series of long, narrow bands of city squeezed between hillsides.
A Basauri map poster makes this compressed geometry very clear. The rivers carve curving lines through the centre, the streets fan out along the valley, and green slopes leave open space at the edges. It's a compact, structured image of a working Basque town.
The Nervión and Ibaizabal meet in Basauri, and their curving channels form the backbone of the map, dividing the town into distinct neighbourhoods.
Rail lines and main roads run along the valley floor beside the rivers, creating long parallel bands that tie Basauri into Greater Bilbao.
Housing rises up the slopes in dense clusters, and the map shows how tightly the town has filled the limited flat ground of the valley.

Ko e ha Basauri
Basauri means something particular to people from Bizkaia: a hometown, a family history in the industrial valley, a life lived between the rivers and the hills. This map records that setting with quiet precision.
