Bataguassu is a town in Mato Grosso do Sul, on the western bank of the Paraná River, which here forms the border with the state of São Paulo. The river is very wide at this point. From above, it is the dominant feature, a broad band of water beside the town's regular grid of streets.
A long road bridge crosses the Paraná here and links Bataguassu to Presidente Epitácio on the São Paulo side. That crossing makes the town an important point on the road between the two states. The surrounding land is given over largely to cattle ranching and farming, on the flat, open plains typical of the region.
A Bataguassu map poster sets the orderly town against the great width of the river. The grid is crisp and regular, the bridge draws a long straight line across the water, and roads run away from town into open country. It is a bold, graphic composition with a strong horizontal feel.
The river runs along the eastern edge of town and forms the state border. Its great width makes it the largest and most striking shape on the map.
A long road bridge spans the Paraná to Presidente Epitácio in São Paulo state. It is a single straight line that crosses the open water on the poster.
Bataguassu's streets follow a regular grid laid out beside the river. They form a clear, orderly block of city that contrasts with the fluid shoreline.
