Bayou-following roads
The main roads follow the bayous, as older settlement in the region did, so the streets bend gently with the water instead of running in straight lines.

Ko e mape
Bayou Cane lies just north of Houma in Terrebonne Parish, in the low, wet country of southern Louisiana. It is named for a bayou, and water decides much of its layout. Roads and neighbourhoods line up along the waterways, following the slightly higher, drier ground beside them instead of any imposed grid.
From above this makes long, narrow bands of development. Commercial strips follow the main roads, and residential streets branch off in loops and cul-de-sacs. Past them lie open land, drainage canals and wetlands. Where the streets stop, the map empties quickly, which says a lot about how much of this parish is water.
The community works as part of the wider Houma area, a centre for the bayou country and the Gulf Coast economy. A Bayou Cane map poster turns that watery setting into clean lines: winding bayous, the roads that follow them, and suburbs fitted into the narrow ground between.
The main roads follow the bayous, as older settlement in the region did, so the streets bend gently with the water instead of running in straight lines.
Straight man-made canals cut across the softer natural curves, showing how much work goes into keeping this low-lying land dry enough to live on.
Postwar residential pockets of looping streets and dead ends sit between the main corridors, each one a small, self-contained pattern on the print.
