Port Sunlight plan
Broad avenues, open greens and a formal central axis make the model village stand out from the surrounding streets. It is a rare example of a fully planned Victorian settlement.

Ko e mape
Bebington lies on the Wirral Peninsula in England, south of Birkenhead, with the Mersey estuary close by to the east. From above it reads as a patchwork of residential streets, curving closes and green open spaces rather than one dense centre. The railway and main roads cut through in north–south lines and organise the neighbourhoods around them.
The most distinctive part of the map is Port Sunlight, the model village Lever Brothers began building in 1888 for workers at their soap factory. Its layout is instantly different: wide tree-lined avenues, broad greens and carefully grouped cottages, all planned as a whole. The Lady Lever Art Gallery stands at its centre, at the end of a long formal axis.
Beyond Port Sunlight, the older village cores of Lower and Higher Bebington add their own irregular lanes, and parks and golf courses leave large open spaces. A Bebington map poster brings these layers together: the planned village, the curving suburban streets, and the railway line leading north toward Birkenhead and the river.
Broad avenues, open greens and a formal central axis make the model village stand out from the surrounding streets. It is a rare example of a fully planned Victorian settlement.
The Merseyrail line runs north–south through the area, with stations along the way. It draws a firm, straight line across the softer pattern of residential streets.
Parks, playing fields and golf courses break the housing up into distinct neighbourhoods. On paper they appear as calm, pale areas that give the composition room to breathe.
