Bejucal lies in Mayabeque province, a short distance south of Havana, on the gentle upland between the capital and the southern plain. Its centre follows the classic Spanish colonial plan, with a regular grid of streets and a main plaza. Low houses in long rows fill the blocks, and roads lead out through farmland toward neighbouring towns.
The town holds a notable place in transport history. In 1837 the first section of railway in Cuba, among the earliest anywhere in Latin America, opened between Havana and Bejucal, a decade before Spain had a railway of its own. Bejucal is also known for its Charangas, a year-end festival in which rival groups compete with floats, music and costumes.
A Bejucal map poster sets the evenly spaced blocks of the town against the long, straight line of the railway and the open farmland beyond. It is an orderly and satisfying composition, and it carries a small piece of Caribbean history. It suits Cubans at home and abroad, and railway enthusiasts too.
The town centre is laid out in a regular pattern of square blocks around a main plaza, which prints with crisp, even texture.
The line from Havana, opened in 1837, still marks the map as a long, straight stroke through the town and the countryside.
Beyond the last blocks the land opens into fields and scattered settlements, giving the compact grid a clear outline.

For Cubans in Havana, Miami or Madrid, a map of Bejucal is a reminder of the streets where the Charangas pass each December. It also makes an unusual gift for anyone interested in the history of railways.
Add your own title and subtitle, keep the coordinates line, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital files cost $9 and have no watermark. Printed posters on matte paper can be ordered with or without a wooden frame.
