Numbered sectors
Residential sectors laid out in the 1950s and 1960s form neat, rounded clusters of streets, each with its own internal pattern, giving the map a modular look.

Bhilai was built from the 1950s around the Bhilai Steel Plant, and the map still shows the plan clearly. The township is divided into numbered sectors, each a self-contained cluster of housing, schools and markets, separated by broad roads and green strips. The vast steel plant lies alongside, a huge block of industrial ground that dominates the composition.
The steel plant was set up with Soviet help under an agreement signed in 1955, and it became a symbol of independent India's early industrial ambitions. Bhilai forms a twin city with neighbouring Durg. Maitri Bagh, a large park and zoo whose name means friendship garden, recalls the Indo-Soviet partnership behind the town.
A Bhilai map poster makes the most of a rare example of a planned industrial township in India. Curving sector roads, straight main avenues, reservoirs and the plant's rail sidings build up a layered, almost diagrammatic image. It looks very different from the tangled streets of the older towns nearby.
Residential sectors laid out in the 1950s and 1960s form neat, rounded clusters of streets, each with its own internal pattern, giving the map a modular look.
The Bhilai Steel Plant covers a vast area next to the township. Its rail lines, sheds and yards fill one side of the map with dense industrial geometry.
The friendship garden, with its zoo, lawns and lake, stands out as a large green space among the sectors and is one of the city's best-known places to visit.

Generations of families came to Bhilai to work at the plant, and for many of them a sector number is a home address that says a great deal. A map of the township is a meaningful gift for parents, former students of its schools or anyone who grew up there.
Put the family's sector or street in the subtitle, choose your own title and coordinates, and pick one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Blueprint, which suits a planned city well. Printed posters ship from print partners in more than 30 countries.
