Bikou lies in the south of Gansu Province, in steep mountain country near the borders with Sichuan and Shaanxi. The Bailong River flows through the area, and the town is set in its valley, with little flat land on either side. On a map, the settlement follows the shape of the river closely and forms a long, thin strip.
The Bikou hydropower station dams the Bailong here, and the reservoir behind it fills the gorge upstream.
