Biñan lies on the western shore of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines, just south of Metro Manila. On the map the eastern edge of the city meets the water in a low, irregular shoreline, while the South Luzon Expressway runs north to south through its western side. Between them, the older town centre with its church and plaza forms the densest knot of streets.
Away from the centre, the city has grown quickly. Residential subdivisions with looping, self-contained street patterns sit beside large industrial and business parks, so the map mixes the organic grid of the old town with the planned geometry of newer developments. José Rizal spent part of his early schooling in Biñan, a connection the city still remembers.
A Biñan map poster reflects a place in transition, where lakeshore neighbourhoods and industrial estates share the same frame. In black and white, the lake becomes a wide pale field along one side and the expressway draws a firm line across the other. The dense older centre stands out clearly among the more uniform subdivisions around it.
The city's eastern boundary follows the lakeshore, a long, irregular edge where streets give way to the open water of the largest lake in the Philippines.
The historic centre around the church and plaza has the tightest street pattern in the city, a compact grid that contrasts with the sprawling newer districts.
The South Luzon Expressway runs through the western side, and on either side planned subdivisions and industrial estates form distinct blocks with their own internal road patterns.
