Ko e mape
Bobbili lies in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, in the plains between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal. From above, the town appears as a compact centre with older, irregular lanes, surrounded by newer streets and then by farmland. Several roads radiate outwards to nearby towns, giving the map a loose star shape.
The town is known for the Battle of Bobbili in 1757, fought between the local ruler and the forces of the neighbouring Vizianagaram kingdom allied with the French, and for its fort, which remains a landmark. It is also famous for the Bobbili veena, a traditional stringed instrument crafted by local artisans.
Around the town, irrigation tanks and small lakes break up the surrounding fields, adding softer shapes to the composition. A Bobbili map poster draws the dense old core, the ring of later development and the roads leading outwards in clean lines, a simple but characterful plan of a town with a long memory.
The historic centre around the fort has a tighter, more irregular street pattern than the newer areas, marking the town's oldest layer on the map.
Roads spread from the centre in several directions towards neighbouring towns, giving the plan a clear, outward-reaching structure.
Tanks and small lakes around the town appear as rounded open shapes among the fields, softening the edges of the composition.
