Bornheim lies in North Rhine-Westphalia, stretched between Bonn and Cologne. It is less one centre than a chain of villages along the Vorgebirge, a low ridge that falls gently eastward to the Rhine. On a map, the settlements line up along roads that follow the slope. Fields and greenhouses fill the gaps, and the river closes off the eastern side.
The Vorgebirge has long been a market-garden landscape. Bornheim is associated with vegetables, fruit and especially asparagus grown on the light soils of the slope. Rail and road links to both neighbouring cities cross the town from north to south, and its riverside districts face the Rhine directly.
A Bornheim map poster shows the town's layered structure. Wooded high ground lies to the west, the villages and their field strips sit along the middle, and the broad river runs along the east. The long north-south lines of road and rail tie it all together, which makes an unusually orderly map for a town without a single core.
The ridge sets the town's orientation. Villages string out along its contour roads, and the forest edge above them draws a soft dark line along the western side of the map.
The eastern districts reach the Rhine, whose wide, gently curving channel gives the poster a strong edge and a sense of the valley between Cologne and Bonn.
Between the villages, narrow rectangular plots and greenhouse blocks form a fine patchwork. It records the farming that the Vorgebirge has long been known for.

Ko e ha Bornheim
Bornheim suits people who live along the Vorgebirge or grew up in one of its villages. It is also a good choice for anyone who commutes between Bonn and Cologne and knows the view down the slope to the river.
Add the name of your village, a family name or a date in the title and subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint brings out the long parallel lines well.
