Buesaco is a municipality in Nariño, in the southern Colombian Andes, north of Pasto. The town sits on sloping ground high in the mountains. From above it shows a compact grid of blocks around a central square, the Spanish colonial pattern found across the region. Beyond it the land drops steeply into river valleys and canyons.
The countryside around Buesaco is agricultural, with coffee and other crops on small farms spread across the slopes. Roads here rarely run straight for long. They follow ridges and descend in switchbacks, linking the town with scattered rural settlements and the regional capital.
