Rice plain grid
Field boundaries and irrigation channels divide the valley floor into long rectangles, a pattern that gives the map an almost textile-like surface around the settlement.

Ko e mape
Bugarama lies in the Rusizi valley in Rwanda's Western Province, close to the borders with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi. After the steep hills that cover most of the country, this corner opens into a wide, level plain, and the map shows it: long straight field divisions and irrigation lines instead of terraces folded around slopes.
The settlement itself is a modest grid of roads and compounds set among cultivated land. Rice is the crop most associated with the Bugarama plain, and from above the paddies form a patchwork of rectangles that fills much of the space around the built-up area, with the hills rising again at the valley's edges.
A Bugarama map poster captures that unusual geometry for Rwanda, a flat, orderly landscape in a country known for its hills. The fine lines of fields and channels give the print a quiet texture, and the town's streets sit within it as a slightly denser knot.
Field boundaries and irrigation channels divide the valley floor into long rectangles, a pattern that gives the map an almost textile-like surface around the settlement.
Bugarama occupies some of the lowest and flattest ground in Rwanda, and the map shows how the hills step back to leave an open plain.
The town sits in a corner where three countries meet, so the roads leading out of it point toward crossings and neighbouring valleys rather than inland alone.

Ko e ha Bugarama
Bugarama suits anyone connected to Rusizi District, whether through family, farming or years of work in the valley. It is a place rarely seen on a wall, and a map of it quietly tells the story of a landscape unlike the rest of the country.
