Bundibugyo lies in western Uganda, on the far side of the Rwenzori Mountains from Fort Portal, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The terrain drops from steep mountain slopes toward the lowlands of the Semuliki valley. On a map the town is compact, with roads curving across uneven ground.
The Semuliki National Park lies nearby, protecting a lowland forest that extends from the Congo basin and is known for its birdlife and hot springs. A Bundibugyo map poster puts the town in that landscape, between mountain and forest, with the Semuliki River and the border not far off.
