Burao Map Poster & Print

Burao is the capital of the Togdheer region of Somaliland and one of its largest towns. The shape of the map is set by the Togdheer, a seasonal river that runs through the middle of the town. For much of the year it is a wide sandy bed, but it still divides Burao into two distinct halves.

Bridges connect the two sides, and the streets on each bank form their own loose grid of compounds and markets. The town is known for its large livestock trade, and roads leave in several directions across the dry plain toward Hargeisa, Berbera and the east.

A Burao map poster makes the river's role clear. A pale band runs through the centre, with blocks pressed against it on both sides. Beyond them the tracks spread across the open plain, straight and sparse. It is a spare, graphic composition that suits a single ink.

The seasonal river runs through the centre, dividing the town into two parts and leaving a wide open band across the map.

02

Twin halves

03

Roads across the plain

Long, straight routes lead out to other towns in Somaliland, crossing dry open country with few interruptions.
