Ko e mape
Cà Mau lies deep in the Mekong Delta, on low, wet land where rivers and dug canals do as much work as roads. On a map the city grows along its waterways: channels meet near the centre, and streets follow their banks, so the urban pattern stretches out in long arms rather than forming a compact block. Around it, a lattice of smaller canals divides fields and aquaculture ponds.
The city is the centre of Vietnam's southernmost province, a region known for its mangrove forests and for Cape Cà Mau, the southern tip of the mainland, which lies further to the south-west. In 2025 the province was merged with neighbouring Bạc Liêu, keeping the Cà Mau name, and the town remains its administrative and trading hub.
A Cà Mau map poster is a study in water. The rivers appear as broad pale bands, the canals as fine straight lines, and the streets gather along them in narrow strips. It is an unusual image for a city map, closer to a drawing of a landscape, and very different from the grids most people expect.
Several waterways converge near the centre, and the older parts of town sit around these junctions, crossed by bridges that tie the separate banks together.
Straight dug canals run out across the surrounding land, forming a coarse grid of water that contrasts with the bends of the natural rivers.
Houses and shops line the roads and banks in long ribbons, so the city reaches outward in several directions instead of filling a single round shape.

Ko e ha Cà Mau
For families from the far south, and for those who travelled down to the edge of the delta, Cà Mau is a place defined by water and distance. A map of its rivers makes a quiet, personal piece that recalls the landscape more than any single building could.
