Two waterways
The Rideau River curves along the eastern side of the campus and the straighter line of the Rideau Canal runs to the west. Together they give the map a strong natural frame.

Carleton University occupies a narrow strip of land in the south of Ottawa where the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal run close together. On a map the campus looks almost like a peninsula, with the river along one edge, the canal along the other, and a dense cluster of academic buildings, residences and sports fields between them.
The university was founded in 1942 and moved to this site later, which explains its layout. There is no historic quad. The plan is a modern arrangement of buildings linked by internal roads and by an extensive network of underground tunnels, which lets students cross the campus in winter without going outside.
Just north of the campus the canal widens into Dow's Lake, and the O-Train line runs along the western edge with a station of its own. A Carleton University map poster puts all of this into one frame, so the water, the rail line and the campus buildings read together as a single place.
The Rideau River curves along the eastern side of the campus and the straighter line of the Rideau Canal runs to the west. Together they give the map a strong natural frame.
Much of the campus is linked by underground pedestrian tunnels. They do not appear on a street map, but they explain why the buildings sit so close together in one connected cluster.
North of the university the Rideau Canal opens into Dow's Lake, a broad basin that adds an open stretch of water to the upper part of the frame.

For graduates, a campus map holds years of routes between lecture halls, residences and the library. It makes a considered gift at convocation, for a new alumni home, or for a parent who remembers dropping someone off on the first day.
Put a graduation year, a faculty or a name in the title and subtitle, and edit the coordinates line if you like. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then download the $9 HD files or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
