Ceerigaabo, also written Erigavo, is the main town of the Sanaag region in Somaliland. It lies at high altitude on a plateau near the Cal Madow mountains, which fall steeply toward the Gulf of Aden coast to the north. From above, the town is a spread of streets across relatively level ground, with roads leading out across the highlands.
The elevation gives Ceerigaabo a cooler climate than most of the region, and the nearby mountains are home to Daallo, a forested area of juniper that is unusual in the Horn of Africa. The town serves as an administrative and trading centre for a wide, thinly populated territory.
