Chittorgarh in southern Rajasthan is dominated by its fort, one of the largest in India. The fort sits on a long, narrow plateau that rises steeply from the plain, and its walls follow the edge of the hilltop for several kilometres. On a map, the fort appears as an elongated, enclosed shape above the modern town.
Within the walls are palaces, temples, water tanks and two towers, including the Vijay Stambha, the Tower of Victory, built in the fifteenth century. The fort was the capital of Mewar for centuries and is part of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan, which UNESCO listed as a World Heritage Site in 2013.
A Chittorgarh map poster reads differently from most town maps because the most prominent shape is a hill rather than a street grid. The winding road up to the fort passes through a series of gates, and the lower town spreads out below, near the Gambhiri river, with newer districts and the railway on the plain.
The fort's walls enclose the whole plateau, forming a long narrow outline that stands out clearly from the surrounding plain on the map.
A zigzagging approach road climbs the western slope through a succession of gates, drawing a distinctive broken line up to the plateau.
The modern town spreads out below the fort, near the Gambhiri river, where denser streets meet the railway and the main roads.

Ko e ha Chittorgarh
Chittorgarh stands for a long story of Rajput history and resistance, and its outline is instantly recognisable. People hang it as a reminder of a visit, a family connection to Mewar or simply a love of historic architecture.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be changed to any wording you prefer. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the fort's engineered outline particularly well.
