Ciudad Apodaca is part of the Monterrey metropolitan area and lies on open, level ground northeast of the city. Because the land is flat, its map is made of straight avenues and wide rectangular blocks, with housing developments set into a network of highways. The mountains that frame central Monterrey are mostly out of frame here, so the design is almost entirely human-made.
Monterrey's international airport is inside the municipality, and its runways are the clearest single feature on the map. Large industrial parks spread around it, with long warehouses and factory buildings that link the city to manufacturing across northern Mexico. Between them are residential subdivisions with their own looping, repeating street patterns.
