Cumbum lies in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu, in the wide green floor of the Cumbum Valley. On a map the town is a dense knot of short, irregular streets. Around it the land breaks into a patchwork of field boundaries and irrigation channels, and to the west the contour lines of the Western Ghats rise quickly toward the Kerala border.
The valley is known for its grapes. Vineyards grow here almost all year, and the local black grape is one of the region's recognised agricultural products. From above you can read that farming in the pattern: long rows, narrow access tracks and small holdings pressed right up against the edge of town, so it is hard to say where the streets stop and the fields begin.
A Cumbum map poster shows that meeting point in clean black and white. The street core sits in the middle, the farm tracks fan out from it, and the mountains close off one side of the frame. Even with no labels, the picture explains where the town is and how it lives.
The town sits on flat, fertile ground between mountain ranges, so the road network spreads out easily before it meets the steep slopes at the edges of the valley.
Small, regular plots and irrigation lines surround the built-up area. They give the outskirts a fine, textured pattern that looks quite different from the tight lanes of the centre.
To the west, the Western Ghats climb toward the state border with Kerala. The map gets a strong natural edge, and the roads there begin to wind.

People who grew up in the valley, or who come from families that farmed it, often want a reminder of home that does not lean on photographs. The street plan of Cumbum is one, familiar in its turns and junctions and quiet enough for any wall.
You can add a title, a subtitle such as a family name or a year, and the coordinates line. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand suit the farmland setting especially well.
